I have Aspire 5100 and all usb ports are now dead. Problem started about month ago and it has gotten worse every day. First usb ports crashed about once a day but today they haven't worked at all.

Each time the usb crashes the system needs to be reseted by removing the battery or else screen stays black and nothing happens.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Sound Like a USB hardware problem. I have the same computer but have never had the problem. What Windows are your using. Trying installing Windows 7 if you dont have it and see if that fixes it. If not then I believe your out of luck. You could check for hardware conflicts but I doubt it.
