Ok I have a Acer 5100 with the TL-50 cpu and onboard ati Xpress 1100. All the vista ratings are in the 3-4 range but the graphics which is 2.1

I flashed the bios to a newer version to get 256mb shared video memory with no increase.

Is there any way to push this rating a bit higher? Better driver/older driver? any other tips? I know generally this rating is only improved with a graphics upgrade but I am still hoping someone on here has figured some tweaks.

    Thanks!

The Windows Experience Index is useless, it has no meaning. It's a terrible benchmark.

I know the WEI is quite a useless benchmark but still 2.1 for your xpress 1100 is kind of low if you ask me. I have the very same notebook running vista and my xpress 1100 gets a 3.0 and I only have the graphics pulling 128mb (set via the BIOS).

The only time it is ever less than 3.0 is when I do a fresh install of vista and the default Microsoft driver is in use; however once I upgrade to the latest catalyst driver the score will go up to 3.0(vista will detect the new driver and ask you to recalibrate the index). So as you can see the memory doesn't matter it is the driver that really causes the increase as the default vista driver is not really "optimized".

BTW the xpress 1100 is a weak card and setting it to take more than 128mb of ram is a waste as the card just isn't powerful enough to need or use it.

I have the catalyst driver loaded perhaps i will check for a newer one. With the default vista drivers i had a 2.0 score with the catalyst drivers i got 2.1 lol.

Well after vista sp1, different driver and faster ram (pulled the original 512mb just running 2gb now) i have managed to get up to 2.7.... I know its not a good benchmark but it is an indication of improvement..
