    Acer Laptop 5100-5674

    Hi,

After using a registry cleaner, (may/maynot be the problem(Doh) when I restart my laptop I sometimes get this message:

    Intel UND PXE - 2.0 (build 082)
    Copyright (c) 1997-200 Intel Corporation

    For Realtek RL8139(X)/8130/810X
PCI Fast Ethernet Controller V 2.13
    (020326)

PXE: Media Test Failure, Check Cable
    PXE: MOF: Exiting PXE Rom

-Once I get this message I cannot bypass it BUT..
If I turn the computer off and on again I can get into Vista Home Premium with no problems (computer works like a charm)?? How long will my (luck?) hold up?

I have searched and seen much advice with people with similar errors but most users have a different error code and cannot get by the black screen. The advice that I took was to
    1) change my bios boot up sequence; I did this. It now boots to hard drive first not the CD ROM. (still waiting to see if this has corrected the problem since it happens off and on)
    2) I also did a scan disc and nothing.
    3) Computer seems virus free.

    * Also when I get into Vista I get a pop up screen that is searching for new hardware driver showing a picture of a desktop computer? I think they are related I did not see one until I saw the other.
    1) checked device manager the unknown device is listed under Other

-Do I need to install a new network driver?
    If so please advise how
-Why is it showing desktop computer picture saying (unknown device) searching for a driver, I have a laptop.

    Please Help

    Hi,

So far I have not seen the error message again. It may be that changing the bios boot up sequence did it. If anyone else received this message I changed the bios boot sequence to default. First it boots to the hard drive then the CD ROM drive and then I believe some other IDE and then to the Lan.

I am still receiving the unknown hardware driver message when I boot into windows vista, but it seems as if all my devices are listed working? Has anyone had this happen to them before.

I will keep you posted if any solution arrives and if changing the bios boot sequence removed the Realtek Error.

    Hi.

How do I disable network boot? I did a goggle and nothing seems to state how to do this in windows vista.

I did a little more searching and was advised to look for the unknown device Instance path to try to find the vendor ID and Device ID.

    I went to Device Mananager
    Found the unknown Device
    Right Clicked for Properties
    Clicked on Details tab
and from the drop down menu selected Device Instance Path and I get ROOT\LEGACY_INT15\0000. Does anyone know what this is?

You disable Network Boot in BIOS not Vista.

Thank you for your advice weinter. I did not disable Boot in Bios. Looks like changing the boot sequence worked referred to up above. I am still having problems with getting the unknown device in my device manager. I have been updating my drivers using radar sync and so far I have been sucessful in not bringing any SOD (screens of death). If I have found a solution I will post if anyone else has run into the same unknown device popup in windows vista home premium.

    Thanks again
