I have had an Acer 5102 since later 2006, and it being my first laptop I have not taken as good care of the battery as I should have. But I have gone and bought me a new battery, (after educating myself on battery care), this battery to be exact http://www.factorymarket.co.uk/product/jklstupqrmno_acer_aspire 5102.html

Now as you can see this is a 14.8v battery with 8 cells, and my original one is a 11.1v battery with 6 cells.

Upon placing the new battery in in laptop the battery light that is usually solid amber when charging started flashing amber, and my laptop reports that no battery is present in the system.

I have been googling this problem all day so I have a few questions that I hope various people will be able to answer.

Oh last thing is that the battery still seems to function, as in I can switch on my laptop and use it and all that stuff.

    1. Has anyone experienced this flashing amber light thing before
    2. If my laptop came with 11.1v battery, is it possible to use a 14.8v battery
    3. Are the 2 above points linked in anyway
    4. Has anyone got an aspire 5102/5100 with a 14.8v battery running inside it
    5. Do you think it is a faulty battery or just incompatibility. I don't really want to have to send the battery back as I bought it from an online store based in the UK and I am currently working in Berlin, Germany, so I would lose out on the cost of postage.

Anyway, any help at all on this matter would be great. I bought the battery because I am going abroad on Sunday and I wanted to use it while I am there. So hopefully someone can get back to me before then

bad battery... even batteries from same OEM supplier often don't have correct battery control circuts for acer installed... and non OEM batteries have a high failure rate..

send it back and hope the next one works

i personally would only buy batteries from acer... yes you pay more but you get a battery that will work first time and if you encounter problems w/in 6months they will replace it (6month warranty on "expendibles")
