I posted this in the ACER5102 thread, but thought it may get seen better in its own thread.

I am having problems trying to get my monitor to power off, and leave the computer running (not standby or hibernate). I would like to do this so my virus scans and backups will be able to run in the wee morning hours. If it goes into hibernation, these schedules will not run.

I setup a power management scheme that says power off monitor after 1 hour, hibernate never, standby never, power off harddrive never. I apply this, but the screen never powers off (screensaver kicks in, but screen stays lit indefinitely).

Does anyone know how I can get the above desired results?

I read somewhere earlier in this thread that you could uninstall the Acer Power Mgt and use XP power management. How is this done and will XP power management let me do what I want?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to XP power options. turn off moniter is right above turn off hard disks. Mine is set for 15 mins and it always turns off.

It may help if you change the settings in Acer Power Management. I think it overides Windows, and for some reason keeps the monitor on. There should be a setting for it somewhere in the application. I'm not familiar with the Power Management software, however. Hope this helps.

I have selected "power off monitor after 30 mins" in ACER power management and it doesnt work. I will try setting it in XP tonight.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Jabba,

Are you also using ACER power management, or have you uninstalled it?

Update on this. It appears the screen is powering off, but something appears to be causing it to wake up occassionally. There is no keyboard or mouse activity and I cannot determine there was any application waking it up.
Any ideas on what may be causing this?
