Jimmyray, could you provide some more details?

    1. Which piece of software are you using to measure the speed?
    2. Does it make it clear what the units are - i.e. is it 6MBps (megabytes per second) or 6Mbps (megabits per second)?
    3. What is the claimed maximum speed of you broadband connection?
    4. Do you know what type of wireless router you have? (eg 802.11b, 802.11g)
    5. Is the notebook in the same room as the wireless router?

If you can answer some or all of the above, I may be able to help further.

I presume the other computers in the house are wireless, in which case is a little odd that your laptop is not running at full speed.

It's possible that you may have some form of power saving on your WiFi adaptor. Just to rule it out, I suggest you connect the laptop to the router using an ethernet cable, disable wireless and try the speed test again.

Also, does your Aspire have the ePower Management software? If so, try setting it to maximum performance and trying again.

Finally, one last thing to try (before emailing Acer!) would be to try the speed test with your laptop right next to the router, just to rule out signal strength problems. Before you do this, make sure that no other computers in the house are using their wireless connections.

Other than the above, I'm stumped!
