this labtop comes prebuilt with Media Version XP.... but no tv tuner card.... so wtf is the point of that? I already made a back up on to two DVDs... via acer software pre-installed. Woopie...

I plan on formating it and installing XP Pro SP2.... with the understanding that I would have to kill off a whole slew of wierd partitions that Acer created. BUT... and thats a big one...

I heard and so far have searched for the most up-to-date drivers for the Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S (1.5v) drive. I heard that this is OEM... that sucks big moose balls if I cant wipe MY labtop and install a fresh OS?

There are no drivers for this drive to be found.. so I really do not want to run the risk of fresh installing an OS... on generic dvd rom drives from the CD... then only to be dumped into an OS with a non functioning DVD-CDRW since I cant find the proper drivers for it.

how the hell can I install the rest of my warez if I the drive wont be recognized and I cant download drivers for it from a reliable source.
Panasonic's support site is basically non-functional.

comments? Suggestions? this is aggravating... media edition sucks balls, useless on a labtop with NO TV tuner card installed... wtf was Acer thinking?
You dont even get a CD of that OS with the labtop!
and... if I format this *****.. well the Acer backup I did is essentially useless...
    I ****in hate buying Labtops.

Optical drives do not require drivers. You are probably looking at the firmware version or something.

unless you know what your doing dont mess with the firmware.
