I've got an Acer Aspire 5313 and I've never had any problems with it.
Last night it shut itself down to install updates when I was out of the room, so I left it off and didn't notice anything wrong. But today when I went to power it up I noticed that the battery light was flashing orange/amber while the power light was a solid orange and there was no indicator that it was plugged in.
If I unplug it and power it up the light stays a solid green, like normal, and I've got an almost full charge, but the instant I plug it in the light starts flashing amber/orange again and it doesn't seem to recognise that I've plugged the cord in.
I've tried a bunch of different 'solutions' that I've been able to find but none of them worked. I haven't downloaded anything in a while and I don't go anywhere near BIOS, since I've got no idea what I'm doing. I know very little about computers though, so there were some 'solutions' that I've not tried yet.
I use this for school, so it's used frequently for hours at a time. If it's simply a new power cord for it, which is what I first thought it might be, that's fine. But the green light on the power supply turns on normally, so I'm not sure that that's the problem.

It's an Acer Aspire 7720G from November 2007, and has just recently started presenting the same problem. Did you happen to find a solution or cause? I'm probably going to send it in Acer since it's still under warranty, but it'd be great if I could avoid that (because it'd take about 1 month).
Thanks. -
I finally took it to someone about a week ago, so hopefully they can fix it and tell me what was wrong.
Good luck with yours though! -
So skylen,
did they happen to find out what was the problem? And did they manage to repair it? -
Unfortunately no.
We're trying our best to recover a few things from it, but other then that it looks likes I'm out a laptop. -
its probably set on High Performance. Change it to balanced.
Remember there are 2 LED indicators on the front of the laptop.
I have a 5315-2122 -
I did think of this, and from what I remember it was never set to high performance. I left it for a few days plugged in, and completely powered down, with absolutely no change other then there being less battery life. There was no indicator that it was plugged in, like normal. No little thing saying it was charging, just constant warnings that the battery was low until I finally ran out of power.
And the problem now is that we can't get it to power up, at all. -
Interesting. Try running the laptop without the battery. Just take it out and plug it in directly. If it powers up this may indicate you have a bad battery.
-
We couldn't get it to power up at all without the battery in it. Though we did buy a new battery as well as new cords thinking it would help, but there was still no change. -
Pictures would be helpful......

Broken power plug its the only explanation left .
Most people abuse the power plug when unplugging the charger plug .
I never ever unplug the cable by having my body stretched in a side position.
I always turn the laptop up front of me , or I am getting at the back of it ,
in order to pull the plug out , with out bending it.
All power connectors should used that way , because thats the proper way to use them. -
Just pictures of the cords? the laptop itself?
If that is the problem though, how do I go about getting it fixed? Or can it even be fixed? -
Yes its fixable .
Solution No1 : ACER ( call them to learn about the cost )
Solution No2 : Find the connector on eBAY ( 5-8 EUR) , and find one freelancer electronics engineer to do the fixing .
The second solution will have a total cost as 50 EUR .
So , here it comes your choice .
