Hi,
Please can anyone help with a problem I have regarding updating the BIOS of my ACER 521TEV laptop?
I have tried to upgrade the processor from a Pentium 3 650mhz SL443 to a pentium 3 1ghz sl53s processor. After installing this and booting an error appears that tells me that there was an error: "CPU BIOS Code Update Mismatch".
Having searched for this error on the acer website I came accross a page which suggests that I needed to update the BIOS so that the system could identify the new cpu. Having updated the bios and rebooting I received the same error message.
The acer site then suggests that I try updating the "Stepping" separately using a program called "Chekup6.exe" and file per_p_10.pdb. I have tried this however this has not rectified the problem as I have to reinstall the old processor in order to boot the system then I get an error message stating that "No microcode updates for your main processor were found in the database file."
After some more searching on the net I found the following http://www1.ezbbs.net/cgi/bbs?id=the_pc_jo...p;dd=20&p=4 which suggests that I try using the checkup6.exe or checkup5.exe with files pep.dat and pep2.dat found on site http://www.cathedrallabs.org/~aris/acer/stepping/ however I get the same result as before. This website then suggests that the ACER BIOS file 66ltd0.bin needs to be manually updated using a binary editor with information coppied from the file "per_p_10.pdb" however I cannot find the file 66ltd0.bin on my laptop to update it.
I realise that there could be the possibility that this new processor just doesnt work with the motherboard however if anyone has any suggestions that may help I would be more than grateful.
