Hello, all
I wanna upgrade me laptop, i have upgraded the hard drive already (SATA) and i wanna know what CPU i can put in it, from readint the other threads i should be able to put in a T5200. But would like a faster processor. Also would like to know can i put 4GB of ram in it, cant find anything on the net, is it maxed out already?
the spec below should help, The CPU is directly under the memory cover so easy access to change! YAY This model has more features than the 5315 so should go further hopefully,![]()

5315 has a newer/better chipset therefore you can put better cpus..I think T5300 is the best cpu for your chipset...not sure though.
-
oh strange
i was hoping it could take more more guts as it has card reader etc.. on it... -
Again, I'm not sure.
When it comes to CPU upgrades, chipset/socket/bios is pretty much what it counts. Check this thread. I know, it's for different model but you can find useful info there. -
The curent Celeron in here is a M 520
-
oh also forgot to add this laptop can run x64 OS's thought this processor was only single core?
-
Read the bios for it and it list an update for T-5500.
Should you decide to buy a T-5500 be sure you get the
right T-5500 as they make many different socket types
for it.

T5600, T7200, & T7600 MAY work if you really have an i943 chipset
see krazyfire's 3680 upgrade sticky... it covers all the issues you will face! -
how can i find out if i have an i943 chipset?
Pc wizzard says i943/940GML any other ways of finding out -
www.intel.com
CHIPSET IDENTIFICATION TOOL
chiputil.exe
download the newest version from the DOWNLOAD section -
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...tID=40&DwnldID=15660&agr=Y&lang=eng&PrdMap=40
try that link
the best way to tell is actually disassemble the laptop,, and see what is printed on the chipset ICs -
doesnt work on vista, will have to take it apart, does anyone have a service manual for the 5310!
thanks in advance
-
you should be able to find someone w/ the SG but it may take a few hours or upto 2 days

thankyou for the manual, most helpful! indeed.
inside the manual there is a list of supported CPU can i just buy one of them and make it easier?
also no mention of how much ram i can put in here, anyone know the CAP? -
thanks for the edit!
just looking out for you... save those questions for PRIVATE MESSAGES -
thankyou, for the warning
-
If you can give me the code on your Ram-Bay I maybe be able to find which chipset that mobo has got..!!
Or just strip that laptop, and on the chipset - see what is printed (with a magnifying glass) -
And the max ram that notebook would support is 2GB, because i945GMs do not generally come with celerons, which means that your notebook came either with the i940 or the i943....and both support max 2GB PC2-4200 ram..!!
-
My aspire 5310 code on Ram-Bay: MB AH302001728664461601.
-
Theoretically, you should be fine even with a T7600, but go for the T5500-T5600, to be sure the BIOS isn't crippled by Acer..!! Do a BIOS upgrade before installing the CPU + Apply AS-5....
-
when we say bios upgrade, do we mean go to acer website and download the latest?
or do i go to the board maker (i know its branded acer but i doubt they make it)
I will go with a T5600 i think. But from looking on ebay is about £100 correct for this processor? although the T5500 is only about £35?
So might as well go with a T5500 for the time being.
Are these processors dead tachnogoly or are they current? ie can you still get these processors in laptops?
Thanks for your help so far -
thangbom0007
what processor is in your 5310 before upgrade? and what is in it now? -
get the latest BIOS from the ACER site!!
support.acer-euro.com
the euro site has newer updates posted before the american site (weeks or months sooner)
all socket M CPUs are kinda "dead" IMO... you can't buy a NEW MODEL laptop with a SOCKET M CPU...
and monday the new generation of CPUS comes out making all current SOCKET P cpus considered an OLDER technology -
thanks for your help. Now I am trying T5600
-
There is only one BIOS version available, forget about latest
-
heya all
had cover off earlier
motherboard is:
MB AH302001732182281601 -
Yeah, you are good to go man..
Found out that the 5310 has only one mobo - MB.AH302.001..
So it is the i943gml - max T7600; advisable - T5500.
Upgrade BIOS and apply AS-5.... -
sorry to be dumb what is AS-5....
if you cant say here can you PM me please -

Good luck mate.
and remember we are always here to help.
Phil -
can i use this in it?
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500 1.66GHz 667 CPU SL9SH
what does it all mean? -
667mhz is the FSB(front side bus speed).
SL9SH is just a spec sheet reference number. -
So get one of them and have a play?
looks a simple drop in and drop outexcited lol
-
AS-5 link for you a couple of posts back.
have fun
Phil -
have fun upgrading.... it gets kind of addicting... kinda like a drug
-
I am wondering which processor between T5500 and T2450 I should use. And please send me the link show how to use AS-5.
thanks -
heya
im going to use a T5500 because A you can pick them up cheap (about £30) the others are more expensive ie, ive seen some upto couple of hundred!
So i hope to start off cheap get my confidence and then maybe go for a better processor when they come down in price and i am confortable playing with expensive processors.
i have played with desktops for years although laptops is an exciting new playing field to try and attempt to touch, just souceing parts was alwasy tricky, and its now getting easier todo so bring on the laptops.
only like ACER make personally, HP seem to die to me
and sony are just to thiny and flimsy. Just a shame your not able to dock ACER. fbr the time being i use everything on USB plugged into a usb hub and then connect the usb hub as my docking station. hence only one usb cable.
thanks for your help guys...shame about the ram issue i wanted to upgrade it some more
maybe time to buy a new mobo
-
-
i want one -
i feel like i gave WAC a real deal... sold him my T5600 for $75us shipped
i can't recall who i sold the T5300 to for $65us shipped -
heya guys!
thankyou for your help, the processor is in now! wooohooo!
worked fine and is amazingly fast, one final question is, how do i know if its getting too hot inside? obviously i got temp monitors but is there one for vista (came with pc). i wud downgrade to xp but dont see the point just to find out my temps inside.
any ideas... -
the wireless on my Acer 5310 keeps dissapearing everytime i set it up, is there a major upgrade i have to do with my laptop when i first get it ?
-
heya, have no problems with wireless here,
yeah its a crap adapter! mega crap doesnt even work with linux. but windows vista picks it up ok? what drivers are you using?
is it the atheros adpater?
Kind Regards
Martyn -
RMCLOCK
it monitors CPU TEMPS and has the MAIN function of allowing users to lower voltage to the CPU inorder to reduce heat given off by CPU and gain extra battery time as well..

Nice one,
Phil -
if so what WIFI adapter does your laptop have??
what OS are you running?
with that info i can point you to the NEWEST drivers... (not from ACER,, but from the WIFI manufacturer) -
Heya,
just thought id say it still works! battery life is as good as before,
problem is ive got a bug now and keep wanting to change the processor for a faster one, so my question is,
is it worth buying an expensive processor or am i better off buying a 5315 and putting my processor in that (t5500) untill i can afford a newer processor for it?
The graphics seem to let this down but i dont think theres anything i can do about that.
any suggestions welcome. what a wonderful forum -
The T5500 is a socket M CPU. It is not compatible with the Acer 5315, which only accepts Socket P CPUs. You'll have to buy a Socket P CPU for the 5315, and I guess the T5450 is cheap and similar to the Socket M T5500.
A good upgrade for your 5310 will be the T7200/T7400....But you won't notice much of an overall improvement, only a boost in CPU-intensive tasks. -
if you are looking for much more power in a cheap price range,, you'll have to step up to a i960/i965 based motherboard (such as the acer 5315)..
however if you also want to be able to upgrade VIDEO down the road too, the 5720g or 7720g are based on the same motherboard as the 5315, but has removable/upgradeable video (but parts are hard to source still).
my advice is,,, use what you have;; set some goals for your new system,, and save cash in a seperate account for NEW or REFURB purchase in the future...
that will give you some time to research the current systems and then figure out which system you may want to go with... planning is key to getting the system specs you want w/o spending more $$ than required!
for those having problems with ATHEROS WIFI cards...try new drivers from this site
