Grandson"s Acer laptop will not Post past the Acer splash screen.
Black screen with blinking cursor only.
Still able to enter BIOS with F2 key and make changes.
Cooling fan runs for second or two then stop.

HD tested good, re-sitted memory sticks.

    Any idea?

    Thanks
    JT

It does POST actually- OS doesn't start after that but BIOS part is OK.
You should either attempt to boot from CD/DVD and repair OS or simply re-install Windows (or whatever OS he uses)

sorry for being a newbie on laptops, shouldn't there be some form of report on hardware details such as graphics and HD ect.. before it attempts to boot windows?

    Not sure what happened.
Boot up with the install DVD to repair the boot sector. Install saw the HD but not the the installed OS, therefore no repair option. Aborted the install and shut down. Restarted the computer to remove the DVD from the drive. To my surprise, Windows boot up fine with no error. Everything is working normal.
Used it all day today. Ghosting the drive as we speak, just in case the drive is going bad. Even though the drive is only 1 year old.

Thanks for all the help again
