    Hi

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 and wonder which hard drives are compatible with this laptop.

It used to have the stock 80Gb but I upgraded that to a Fujitsu MHY2160BS (160GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA) straight off. This has now failed so looking to replace.

Any advice on possible 7200RPM drives to use in this laptop or alternatives to the above.

    Thanks

Any 2.5" SATA drive will be fine.

Any 2.5" drive will work. In my experience, Samsungs tend to run cooler. If you want a 7200 rpm drive, there are several but the cost is higher and the speed is negligible for the average user, maybe a lowered boot time of 3-5 seconds. But those run hotter and if you're hard drive panel is near the palm rest, you're not going to enjoy typing.

Thanks for the advice, the first time I did this it was because the drive was going spare and it just worked so never even thought about compatability issues.

Stock 80GB hard drive? My 5315 came with a seagate 160GB and i've upgraded that to the Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Blue 5400RPM SATA hard drive
