Hello. There's one thing that's strange for me.

I think that 5315 should work using 4 GB of RAM and i'll explain why:

We are saying that Acer 5315 or 5715z are really the same, because of the manual is the same in Acer webpage (you can check it http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers.../as_5715.html).

If we have a look to Acer 7720 manual (Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Aspire 7720) you will realize that it is virtually the same computer.

They all are GL960 and they have the same BIOS.

    So, why 7720 manual says:
    Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor T7300/T7500/T7700/
    T7800 (4 MB L2 cache, 2/2.2/2.4/2.6 GHz, 800 MHz FSB), or
    T5250/T5450/T5550/T7100/T7250 (2 MB L2 cache, 1.50/1.66/
1.83/1.80/2 GHz, 800 MHz FSB), or higher, supporting Intel®
    64 architecture

    and

Up to 2 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory, upgradeable to 4 GB
using two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support).

    4 GB of DDR 533/667 !!!!!!! not 3 GB!!!!
Check the specifications of the two computers in the manuals, they are just the same!! But 5315-5715z just works on T2130, and 7720 works with T2130 and Core 2 Duos!!!!

There has to be a solution to this mistery. It seems we should be able to have 4 GB on our 5315 !!!!

Please, does someone know anything about this? i've read some people saying they have a 5315 with 4 GB of RAM !

    Thank you

Well, officially - Mobile Intel® GL960 Express Chipset

Unofficially some users managed to upgrade their Acer laptops to 3GB in certain slot/stick combination. If you look on the Internet some people says they manage to get 4GB working. I've never seen an explanation about this..."phenomenon".

Even though the 7720 is basically the same model as 5315 and 5715(and 5735 too) the notable difference is that some 7720 models comes with the GM965/PM956 chipset and some models are crippled versions(meaning with GL960 chipset). I guess when it comes to marketing Acer would say that the 7720 is upgradable up to 4GB without mentioning it will work only on certain models.

Note that the ICL50 (the common name for Aspire 5315, 5715, 5720, 7715 and 7720) motherboard has 2 known revisions: rev. 1A and rev. 2.0. (Possibly there is also a rev. 1.0 - I have not yet seen one, though.) The most important difference is the PLL chip: rev. 1A has an ICS 9LPRS365BGLF, while 2.0 instead contains a Silogo chip. It is quite possible that it is rev. 1A (or perhaps 1.0) that suffers from the 4GB bug.

I wonder what happens of someone solders a Silogo PLL on a 5315 M/B... though I think the issue is something different.
