Recent playing with data recovery options on a friend's HP laptop highlighted my lack of a scratch disc for use when attempting data recovery on laptops.

That seemed like a good excuse to buy a new HD for my 5315 which by a process of trickle down would release a SATA laptop HD as a spare/scratch disc. ;)

I chose a Hitachi 200Gb 7200rpm disc with reasonable access time as my 9500ES cpu has been running beautifully and it seemed sensible to pair it with a fairly fast disc. The disc swap was as simple as usual on the 5315 and the Vista disc performance indicatior increased from 4.9 to 5.5, an exact match for the cpu.

I've also acquired an IDE converter to enable data recovery from old IDE laptop drives as its only a matter of time till I'm asked for help with one of those! :)
