My fan just runs and runs anytime this computer is on. Is there anyone out there that is familiar with this setup that could recomend a new fan that I could install or suggest something to help keep this machine cool? It is getting flippin' annoying!

It may not be possible to replace the fans on your system, as the fan and heatsink units are specific to each laptop, which could mean some heaviy modding to get it to work, if it would work. There are a few other things you can do.

    1. Clean your vents and fan. Open up the laptop, and where the fan kicks out the hot air, there should be some fins so to speak, they may be covered with dirt and dust. If they are, this should lower the temps.

    2. If you do the above, you may want to buy some new thermal compound to put onto your CPE. The stuff Acer uses can be very poor at what it is meant to do. A very good one a lot of people use is Arctic Silver.

    3. Under volt the CPU. This is a process of reducing the voltage that the CPU uses without affecting the performance. There is a good thread about this here on NBR:

Can reduce your temps by a lot, and best of all it's free!!!

    4. Buy a notebook cooler.

I had this problem too, and it only got worse. It peaked at 91°C and sometimes even turned itself off. I renewed the thermal paste (Acer really made a mess out of it, the whole chip was almost covered in that stuff...) and dusted out the radiator and now it idles at 45°C (even 38°C if I'm lucky! :D ) and under load it's 70°C. It's 20 mins of work but you have to be careful. There are some guides for replacing it. Just google it. Use something from wood or plastic to remove the paste from the conductor & CPU
It runs like a charm now :)

My acer 5020 has been running very hot at times and my cooling fan has been running almost from the time that I boot up the computer. I can start my browser and after a couple of URL visits...my computer is at a crawl from running hot. Have been fighting this problem for over a month. I even sat the computer on a box fan with the back cover removed..did not help at all, sometime the laptop just shut down from getting to hot. I took the laptop out to my garage where i have a air compresser and ran air through the vent holes which turned the cooling fan and a puff of dust came out. I did this a few times and each time i would see small amounts of dust come out. I took the computer back inside and put the back cover on. I booted up the computer and after surfing the web and running programs at the same time for over 2 hours the computer was running like a new one.The computer no longer over heats and the fan is so low that i can't even hear it. By running the compressed air through the vents and clearing out the dusk did the job for me. Hope this helps you also. :)
