I have had an Acer 5551 for about three months... no problems. Yesterday it locked up/became completely unresponsive, and I had to manually switch the laptop off and back on. After the bootup, the touchpad no longer worked. Not only did it not work, it no longer appeared in the device manager. Thinking it might be a driver issue, I re-installed the drivers... no luck. I decided to determine whether it was a software or hardware issue by booting with a linux live CD. When it booted, the touchpad was still unresponsive. I tried toggeling the fn - F7 both in Windows and Linux, but no luck.

Has anyone experienced anything like this, and if so, was there an easy solution?
