    Acer 5570 RAM upgrade problem

    I checked with Acer and Crucial.com to determine that I could upgrade from 1GB to 4 GB , removing the two existing 512 MGs and installing two 2 GBs in their place. When both 2 GBs were installed the computer would not boot. After checking with Crucial tech I tried with just one of the 2 GBs and then the other. Each worked fine individually. I then downloaded the Vista Flash BIOS 1.32230 and after some help from the Acer tech people was able to install it. It did not change anything. Finally Installed one of the old 512 MGs with one of the new 2 GBs and that worked. Am now running on 2.5 Gigs which is an incredible improvement especially with the Vista OS. If anyone has been able to update to the full 4 GBs please let me know what I've missed. Incidentently, the 2 GB RAM can be ordered online from crucial.com for about $21 and installation is a snap ( about 5-10 minutes ).

    According to this spec page, your notebook has the 943GML chipset from Intel.

    That chipset has a hard limit of 2GB of RAM. There is no way that 4GB will work.

    The 5570 comes with both the 945GM and 943GML chipset. I think it is the 5570Z with the 943GML, so checkout which chipset you have using CPU-Z.

    If its the 943GML, then as Greg said, 2gig is the limit. If it is the 945GM, 3GB is the limit. And I think the latest BIOS is the v1.3508....

    4GB works in the 5570 but you don't get it all, you get roughly 3.34GB. I have 4GB in mine but regardless of OS/BIOS, you still only get the same 3.34GB.

    Thanks Andy, Greg and Goofball. The chipset on my 5570Z is the 945GM family. Since it is already supporting the combined 2GB and 512MG RAM modules for a total of 2.5GB, I'll return one of the 2 GBs and get a 1 GB RAM so I should be able to wind up with a total of 3GBs. Thanks again.

    It could be a bad stick of ram, or a bad Ram slot. Try this:

    FIRSTLY update your BIOS to the most current available, and NEVER update to a beta BIOS. The reason for this is that very old BIOS revisions may have improper support, or no support at all, for >2GB ram configurations.
    If after updating the problem persists, follow these tests:

    1) Take out all ram

    2) Put 2GB Stick A into first Slot, boot, record results

    3) Take out 2GB Stick A, Put in other Slot, boot, record results

    FIRST CHECK: If both times the comupter would not post after 2-3 tries, that stick is likely bad.
    Repeat stpes 1-3 for 2GB Stick B, and again, if both times the computer won't post, likely a bad stick.

    FIRST ANALYSIS: If the computer posts when 2GB Stick A are in one slot, but fails when it's in the other (the same goes for 2GB Stick B), possibly the RAM slot may be faulty, contact Warranty Services about a replacement Mobo.

    4) Assuming the above checks were all fine, perform steps 1-3 with both 2GB Sticks again, with the following important change: For each test, put the 512MB in the unoccupied slot. If the results are different than the previous on any of these Step 4 tests, you may have a faulty memory controller, contact Warranty Services about a replacement Mobo.

    5) Assuming all is well so far, try placing both RAM Sticks in the slots, boot, record results. Switch the two Stick around, boot, record results.
    Now if all tests so far have run fine, but the system fails to boot on either of these Step 5 Tests, you likely have a faulty memory controller, contact Warranty Services about a replacement Mobo.
