    Acer 5583 Bsod on 4 gb ram

    im getting a bsod or it dosent boot when there is 4 gb ram but it works fine on 2 or 2.5 gb , what should i do reply quick im at the shop

    Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version ? Try different slots and modules.

    Tried 2+1GB ?

    yeah i updated the bios and it worked :D as expected win xp x86 shows only 3 gb of ram. but even the bios shows only 3 gb.. isnt it supposd to show 4 gb?

    lol i went to acer panam site this time and found newer version of bios which claimed to "Addresses dual RAM module issues. " and after flashing to that version my comp wasnt booting with 4 gb ram but bios showed 3330 mb ram or something so now i took out 1 ram stick

    where can i get latest version of phoenix bios? the phoenix site takes me to biosagentplus.com in which i need to buy an account to get latest bios version

    Download v3508 from here.

    The notebook has a 32-bit memory controller, so ~3GB is the max.

    even if i install 64 bit operating system?

    It is a physical limitation. Nothing to do with the OS.

    thanks a lot , andy this version detects only 3070 mb but it boots...

    Thats fine. There was a bug with the GPU when 3.3GB RAM is detected, which was corrected somehow by limiting it to 3GB.

    i guess i'd never use 4 gb anyway :eek:)
    and also i think there's no point using xp now, superfetch would help a lot.
    win server 2008 x64 here i come!
