Since about a week ago, my laptop's screen has been having problems every so often. It's a little hard to describe what's wrong. It still sort of displays what's supposed to be on the screen, only it's very distorted and the screen rapidly flickers... For example, sometimes it will vertically display what's on the screen twice. That is, the whole desktop will be shown in the top half and then again in the bottom of the screen, but it's like it only shows every other scanline, and which scanlines it decides to show change constantly so there's a really bad flicker.

When I first saw this problem, I thought it was a bad video driver because I've had similar experiences with bad video drivers in the past. However, I think it must be a hardware problem in this case because it will do this (sometimes) even in the BIOS setup before Windows starts.

I have entered the serial number on the Acer support web site, but it only tells me to take it to Best Buy. Is that what I should? Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

Thank you for any help you have to offer.

i've seen other posts here last week about seroius screen issues such as you describe. but to cut to the heart of the matter, you do have a hardware problem if you encounter the flickers and such even in the BIOS setup screen. it could be as simple as a loose connection, or as bad a motherboard component about to totally fail... if your laptop is under warranty i'd take it to BestBuy if that's where your warranty service is done. Better to have Acer's repair channel do the work so you don't void your warranty and end up needing to buy a $300 part out of your own pocket.

just my three cents, hope it helps ya
