    I have the Acer 5672 1.73 Core Duo w/ 1gb ram and 120gb HD, ati x1600

I just started having a problem with it last night. I was sitting down with it on my lap and all of a sudden the main fan started making a high pitched noise. It wouldn't stop and I noticed my laptop getting extremely hot (more than usual). So I turned it off. I opened the back and air sprayed everything, however when I boot it up everytime the fan starts, the high pitched noise does too. I've had this laptop for 8 months now, with zero problems. Can anyone please help me?

If the notebook isn't unstable, then check the temperatures for both the graphics card and the processor. It could be that they have reached the point where they cause the fan to spin at a high rate, and cause the notebook to become hot and noisy.

temperatures for graphics card and processor are normal. the fan spins for 5 seconds on boot up, and that is when i first hear it make the high pitched noise (it makes the noise again when the notebook gets warm and the fan kicks in). this noise is bloody loud, as in all my roommates can hear it doors closed.

Was the noise of the fan present when you first purchased the notebook, and also when the fan used to spin up to a fast speed before. If it wasn't, then it suggests that the fan is failing. That may because th bearings are becoming defective. if you are under a warranty, then that may be the best way to get the fan repaired.

The notebook, judging by its specification, should still be under its minimum one year warranty. But if not, then you may need to find a replacement fan. I beleive these notebooks are still sold, so finding a replacement shouldn't be massively hard to find. But first, check if the notebook is under warranty, because it doesn't seem to old.

yuio, if yours makes a high pitched noise like mine i don't know how you've ignored it. mine is so loud that i can hear it over music, and even the westjet planes over my residence. lol

i called acer, got through to a tech rep asap, gave my serial number, and was told that i'm still under warrenty. all i have to is ship it to a repair shop and the whole ordeal should only take 10 business days... i'm impressed!
