I recently hooked up my Acer 5672 to my TV using SVIDEO to watch a movie and realized very quickly that there are no sound ports on the lappy. Normally I wouldn't be bothered by this but it was just kind of annoying to have to listen to my laptop sound with the bigscreen showing video in all it's glory.
Anyone know if there is a way I could hook up sound to my TV as well?

if you have built in speakers to your tv then most likely no (you'll need audio inputs).
If you have a home theater setup then connect the speaker port to your audio reciever to enable audio support as well.

(1) Get a mini-stereo (headphone) to RCA (white-red) converter. RCA connects to your TV or receiver. Mini-stereo plugs into the headphone (SPDIF) jack on your 5672. This will get you 2 channels.
(2) Get an optical toslink cable with a mini converter. This will allow you to use the toslink optical jack on your TV or home theater receiver. The mini end plugs into the headphone (SPDIF) jack on your 5672. With this setup you get 5.1 digital sound, assuming you have a compatible receiver.

I didn't actually know if there was a cable that did what you described in (1). Now I do, and will have sound shortly.
Once again, spiffy response and I love notebookreview.com and all the people who contribute even more. -

Homerjay, you need to tell the software you are using that it should send output to your digital output.
I have not tried the digital out on my laptop yet, but in VideoLAN (VLC) I think you might find the solution is to select "Use S/PDIF when available" in Settings --> Preferences --> Audio. If that doesn't do it, try to experiment with the DirectX settings (Audio --> Output modules --> DirectX --> Output device). You'll need to turn "Advanced options" on to get to the DirectX settings.
I don't use WinAMP, so can't help you there.
