I just got my acer back from the depot since I needed to get the audio board replaced. The headphone jack was loose. I reformatted and got rid of the image they put on my disk (you didn't have to do this to replace my audio board...). Anyway, I guess when they reassembled it, they screw'd other things up.
My media keys on the left of the keyboard aren't working. They don't generate any scancodes. I don't think it's a drivers problem since I was using the same windows standard 101-keyboard drivers beforehand. The shortcut keys next to the power button are fine. I think they forgot to plug in a connector for the media keys.
The left USB ports are not working. Seems like the left side of my laptop isn't doing too well. I am guessing they forgot to plug the ports into some USB headers on the motherboard. My right USB ports are working fine.
I love how Acer support decided to add a couple more problems in order to fix a trivial one. =| I think I'm going to gut the machine and try fixing it. The small user accessible panel seems promising. Can anyone give me an idea what I'm going into?

This is not really an option since my warranty has expired and I need this laptop for school. =/ Is there any other way? Thanks.

I will tell you a thing.
if your left USB work then the media key's will work as i think.
so first just repair the USB ports and check the media key's.
the service manual may help you. -
Thanks for the link. This USB FFC thing looks promising. I'll see what I can do when I have some free time.

Just thought I'd update you all on how my problem turned out. I took out the hard drive and I immediately saw that the FFC to the USB ports wasn't attached to anything. In order to reattach it, I had to take apart the entire laptop. By that time, I found another FFC unconnected. This turned out to be the media keys (audio dj in the service guide). I reattached it. Also, the antenna for wifi was hooked up with transmit and receive reversed. I didn't notice that since I don't have wifi around me. The order is different in the service guide as well. Swapped the two wires to put it in accord with the label on the wireless card. When I came across the new sound/touchpad module they installed, I found some black tar(?) on the FFC. Cleaned that up. Reassembled the thing and started some tests. Wireless seems to work. Media keys work except for the next track key (second from bottom). Everything but that key generates a scancode. The two USB ports also work. So far everything seems well. I'm extremely disappointed in Acer's repair job. I don't think I'll ever send a computer back to them again.
