I don't know if anyone already posted this here or not. I haven't been online here in a while. So I apologize in advance.

OK here I have it it is possible that if you made a recovery DVD when you first got your laptop. it is possible to use that DVD to do a fresh install of the ACER XP

Important!!!if you deleted your recovery partion (like i did) it is STILL possible to use the recovery disk.

I repartitioned my C drive to 25gigs and used all the remaining 87gigs for my D drive. Then l inserted the DVD and rebooted it and set it to boot from the cd/dvd drive and it automatically formats the c drive and reinstalls to factory settings.
I was curious to see what it would do. so i did that and it worked. i was surprised.

just for all those people who havent tried this.

Maye it will end up in JohnnyT's howto.

Um...... Bugmenot9 thanks for letting us know this, however that was the whole purpose of the restore DVD. To "restore" windows to the previous state that it was in.

Now if you are stating that you did a clean install of windows from the restore dvd then that is news to me. A clean install means there are no drivers / software / programs / anything on the pc when you install.

By default Acer made that DVD bootable for the main purpose of booting to ntrecovery console and imaging the pc back to the previous state.

If you could, please clarify a bit as far as what you mean by a fresh install. Fresh to me means using an oem copy of xp + the cd key on the bottom of your pc, not a preconfigured operating sytem.

p.s. I asked a mod to lock the 5672wlmi how-to guide because people were just not reading up on the faq's and guides we posted. Instead they felt compelled to ask questions in that thread that did not pertain to improving the how-to guide. As a result the guide got longer and longer.... not to mention more ambigious and harder to read though. Because of this it has been locked and will remain so until more pertentant data appears or people actually start searching for help instead of reading up on it more.
