I have an Acer 5710. The screen has cracked where the webcam should be. There is no support at all behind the top of the screen. It flexes in to empty space due to there being no rear support. Can anybody confirm if there should be a top support fitted if no webcam is there.

    Thanks for the rapid reply.
The laptop is on it's way back from warranty firm who said it is not covered. The crack initially looked like a 3cm inkstain but it has now "healed" itself. Looking sideways in a bright light the inner surface has a crack visible. The outer surface is unmarked. I wanted to know if the 5710 has any screen support fitted when no webcam is there. Mine screen top is totally unsupported apart from the 2 screws at either end. The centre section can be pressed in 5 to 8 cm with no resistance. I'll post a photo of the top of the screen when I get it back.

I had an acer 5315, which looks pretty similar to yours, can't vouch for the inside of yours, anyhow, the screen got cracked on mine. Took it apart and it had only 4 screws supporting it at each corner. I don't remember seeing any supports as such in the middle, only the screws.

I'd get in there and try to put some double sticky tape foam padding or something like that in.
