Acer 5720Z 2gb ram win7 64bit sp1 Intel 965 chipset bios v1.45
new here, got donated 2 of these, 1 working great, one with graphics problems (it looks like the BGA might have moved on the mb) and a smashed screen, was reading an older thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/acer-aspire-5720z-ram-upgrade.445137/ where the op Hartopillo said he was successful in upgrading to 4gb of ram
"and finally, HERE'S THE CATCH:
Some guy told me Acer was including some software to "preserve" their computers from bad use and over-clocking, so there's and embedded BIOS utility that allows you to control a few parameters under Windows. The thing is that when booting from a Windows CD/DVD, this program also boots!! (Acer computers have a hidden partition in your HDD for data recovery. When using Linux, this software dies...
So, final solution: I removed the hidden partition, un-installed the program from Windows, and Voilá!! my Aspire has 4gb of RAM running smoothly and no BSOD whatsoever."
my questions from the above quote
a) how do you remove the hidden partition *: pqservice 11.71gb ntfs without reformatting the drive?
b) which program would have to be un-installed from windows?
other questions
c) will this MB handle a qx9000 processor or is t9500 its limit?
d) will the chipset /mb allow for a 500gb sata hdd? current hdd is a seagate160gb sata

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
rosscom,
a) Acronis, probably;
b) if there really is something like that - which I highly doubt - remove all the Acer crap with unknown functionality;
c) any quad core is a definite no-go;
d) you can throw in whatever you want, including 2TB HDDs/SSDs.Last edited: Jul 18, 2015downloads likes this. -

Thanks for the replies, so, as far as a) and b) go, by removing the pqservice partition, probably stops the 2gb ram limitation, the acer documentation says 4gb, the T2300 processor and the 965 chipset should be capable of running the 4gb, yet the machine has the same symptoms described by others, the bios sees 4gb, but then stops at windows start-up, which seems more like software or OS behaviour than hardware to me. I'll try and video the blue screen that pops up for a second before the machine restarts.
as for c), it looks like T9500 is the limit for this machine
