I downloaded the service manual, it shows that the fan is removable easily. However, when I opened the laptop, it seems the fan is permanently attached to the heatsink. There is no guide on how to get this fan off (along with the heatsink I guess). I wanted to replace it because it makes a whirring noise when it is running. I tried cleaning with compressed air but it still makes that noise. If I do replace the whole fan/heatsink unit, would I need to use thermal paste and how much do I use?

    Thanks

It looks like the fan itself can be replaced but it's screwed on to the radiator assembly so you'll have to remove the whole thing and only then remove the fan.
Looking at replacement fans it looks like the screws holding the fan to the radiator assembly are on the bottom of the radiator so there's no other way but to remove the whole thing.

You'll need some thermal compound- not much though less than a grain of rice worth for CPU (maybe even less).
