    Hi folks,

I left my - fairly new - 5740G laptop uncharged for a couple of weeks because I didn't really need to use the laptop around the house (got a desktop).

Just today, I tried charging up the battery and am having the following issue - even though everything is plugged in and working, the battery stops charging every 2-3 seconds, then starts charging again. This is accompanied by hysterical beeping, laptop going from full performance to power saving mode - in short, renders the whole thing completely unusable.

Anyone ever encountered anything like that? How do I even approach figuring out where the problem might be?

Li-Ion doesn't like to be drained completely, hopefully you didn't damage the battery. But since it's plugged in, the computer shouldn't go into power saving mode. Are you running windows 7? make sure in power options it's set to balanced. Then I would shut down the laptop, take the battery out for an hour, then put the battery back in, plug the charger in and let it charge for 8 hours, with the laptop off. Even if the LED says charged keep it powered off and plugged in for 8 hours.

After that, unplug the charger and power it on, let it run low just this one time, to recalibrate the power meter in windows (10% warning). Then shut down windows, and let it fully charger with the computer powered off, and the charger plugged in for a few hours again. After that I hope it would be okay.

Well, this was weird - I had done everything you suggested, and things were peachy for a few weeks.

This night, I left the battery cable unplugged; the laptop was down to 87% battery capacity by the time I woke up. When I plugged the cable back in, the hysterical beeping started all over again, so we're back to square one.

Any place where I can buy a battery?
