    Hello all,

I am having a big issue trying to get speech recognition working. When I speak into the microphone, the volume level hardly registers unless I tap on the device. I have Mic Boost turned up to +10db and I don't have any of the effects checked. I also unchecked the "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" radio box for both the Speakers and the Microphone.

I have reinstalled the drivers from Acer's website and then from Realtek's website--neither worked.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I would really appreciate it!

I have the same problem as you. I think the built-in microphone is terrible.

Well that is not good...sigh. I talked to the tech support today and he said it was not a known issue (although I used to work in Gateway tech support and they told us not to tell customers anything was a known issue). While he offered to have me send it in, I have heard stories of the laptop coming back in worse condition, so I am reluctant to do that. Not to mention, it will take two weeks.

I am considering getting a USB sound pod, which is actually a cleaner signal anyway if you're wanting to do voice recognition. They sell them here:

    emicrophones.com - USB Sound Pods

Anyway, it's a great computer other than that... but this really sucks.

These won't fix the poor microphone (the mic of my 1810 is that poor also), so you need a good headset for voice application. I'd try the headset with the built-in audio at first - you can still buy some USB audio device if you are not happy with the results.
