Hi Folks,
I have an Acer Aspire 5741 (2 Years old) and recently the battery does not seem to charge. The symptom is that the computer reads "Plugged in, not charging". The laptop will not stay powered on if I disconnect the AC power and if I take out the battery the computer recognizes the battery is detached. When the computer is turned off, the battery still doesn't not charge and the battery indicator light flashes.
I have read in articles that something called an EEPROM might be restricting the charge cycle as the battery has met the charge/de-charge usage, i.e. 300 Charges. Is this the case and will buying a new battery fix the issue. It seems rather scandalous that Acer would restrict the battery which is proprietary to a few charges, only for the consumer to have to purchase their product. Ebay - Does offer some fong yong batteries from China at a margin of the cost, so they really just shooting themselves in the foot.

They aren't shooting themselves anywhere because it's not true about Acer restricting number of load/discharge cycles to extort money from you.
Batteries die in time- that's why warranty for battery is only 6 months regardless of how long is it for the rest of the notebook.
Use HWMonitor to check how much f the original designed capacity is still left- my guess is that the battery wear is very high.
