I have an Acer 5745G which had a rather annoying high pitch noise or high pitch whine coming from the front left corner by the audio jacks. I was about to post here if anyone figured out how to fix it, but after some googling, I found the answer. I'm posting now to share in case anyone with the same laptop or any laptop with a Realtek High Definition Audio chipset & Windows 7 has the same problem.

SONY Vaio F Series high-pitched noise | Laptop Reviews

    1. Open the Start menu and click on Control Panel
    2. Click on Hardware and Sound
    3. Click on Sound
    4. Go to the Recording tab, select Microphone and click on the Properties button
    5. Click on the Listen tab
    6. Check the "Listen to this device" checkbox and set playback through this device to "Realtek Digital Output"
    7. Click Apply

    Enjoy the silence!
