Hello I've just got an acer 5745g with a Core I5 430m, I'm wondering whether these cpus can be upgraded if so is there a list somewhere of what CPU's my motherboard will support.
Also I'm quite disappinted by the Nvidia card which only scores 4.9 in win 7, Can this be upgraded to one of the newer Nvida cards thta are out or am I stuck with this card.
Any help/advice will be appreciated. Many thanks

Hello killercop, and welcome to the forums!

Since other models of the 5745G have been sold with Intel Core i7s in them, and I doubt they'd have a different motherboard just for that model, I think it would be safe to say that you could upgrade from the Core i5 to the i7.
Just keep in mind that the quad-core i7s do not have an Intel GMA HD on-board; you'd lose your switchable graphics functionality.

Don't take the Windows Experience Index without a grain of salt; in terms of a benchmark for graphics cards, it's far from the best. Try a 3DMark program or a timedemo of something like Devil May Cry.

Unfortunately, Acer stopped using the MXM format that allowed for GPUs to be changed; this means you're stuck with the GeForce GT 330M. That being said, the GT 330M is still a capable card; just don't expect full-rez, high-detail on every game.

Ok thanks for the info, unfortunately though somehow I ended up with a 310m GPU in my laptop. Been doing a bit of a dig around and most come with the 330m, so pissed off I didnt shop around so to speak.
I just chucked a new 120gb SSD drive in and that has sped things up considerably so probably happy at the moment but good to know that I can put an I7 or a higher spec I5 in at a later date.
