    Hi all,

I am planning on taking apart my Acer 5750G soon. I have two questions, does the laptop have a thermal pad for it's GPU? and if so can I replace this thermal pad with thermal paste? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Sami

Some use thermal pads others thermal paste, it depends on your heatsink model. Afaik there're three different ones:

    1) Cpu -> Paste, GPU -> Pad, Northbridge -> None, GDDR Modules -> None

    2) Cpu -> Paste, GPU -> Paste, Northbridge -> None, GDDR Modules -> None

    1) Cpu -> Paste, GPU -> Paste, Northbridge -> Pad, GDDR Modules -> Pad

The only way to know it is to disassemble the laptop and check it. Thermal pads can be replaced with thermal paste if the gap between gpu and heatsink isn't too thick, but I'm afraid that you'll need to use copper shims on 5750G if you have pads and you're planning to use the paste.

You can find copper shims on ebay for few cents. Check out 5750G Owners Lounge ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/729899-acer-5750g-owners-lounge.html) for more useful info about this laptop! :)

Really don't know. I think that 1.2-1.0mm thick shims should do the job.

Sorry for the late response and thanks for the advice ellric.
Just one last thing I was wondering, is there any alternative for copper shims?, I live in the middle east and it is difficult to find such items here.

You can order thermal pads such as these. These thermal pads has outstanding thermal conductivity and with theme there I don`t think that you`ll need to install copper shims.
