    Greetings all,

I purchased an Acer that I've had a couple of years now, but in recent months I have noticed that the battery steadily drains with a "plugged in, not charging" message on the battery meter. This has gone on for a few months (whereas it used to charge up) and finally a few days ago it reached the "0%" mark. It stays plugged in mostly, so it has ample time to charge the battery, unless I need to click some setting to make it do so.

After finally reaching the 0% mark, the blue light on the front of the device will now occasionally flash orange and the battery meter will fill during this time, with a "plugged in, charging" message displaying. However, it only does this for a few seconds at various intervals, then goes back to the blue light and the original not charging message. The battery hasn't seen much use and when unplugged, it used to shut the computer down completely even when it still, according to the meter, had about 40% of a charge left. Before that, if there was some power outage, it would kick on and keep the laptop going.

I tried uninstall and reinstall in the device manager and in so doing, I found out that the battery will run the laptop on low power, so I know the battery is working. But for some reason it isn't charging even when plugged in and even stranger, it does charge for those few seconds when the light on the front is orange. But I can't get it to do this continuously. Any suggestions?

Use HWmonitor or similar app to compare designed capacity of your battery to its current capacity. It may be that wear level is so high that the battery is virtually dead.
How long does the laptop work on battery?
