Hello again!
I've decided to sell my notebook but I have to solve the temp issue before the buyer gets it.
First of all, the notebook specs:
- i5 460M 2.5Ghz (tb to 2.8GHz)
- 4GB RAM DDR3
- HDD 640GB
- Ati Radeon 5650 1GB (550/800)
Some temp screens (after 5 minutes of Crysis 2):

Look at the CPU and GPU temps. Even on IDLE, they are really high.
PS: GPU Overclock (700/1000) - 103 C = 217.4 F (can someone confirm that it is really strange - a significant overclock that increases the temperature by 2 Celsius ?

Even with ThrottleStop, the CPU cant reach turboboost frequency (it always stucks at 105C)
I have disassembled it more than 5 times, changed the thermal compound (Arctic Silver 5 and Arctic MX-4), cleaned it completely, but no changes (the temps are exactly the same). I think the heatsink is working well because the copper parts reachs about 50+ Celsius (122 F), and the air flow is warm. I reinstalled the OS, the lastest drivers, but no changes.
I guess the issue started to happen months after I adquired this notebook, because I was abble to play NFS Hot Pursuit with Full Settings and Stable 60FPS, but suddenly, after months, it started to get poor performance, giving about 25FPS (even with ThrottleStop). Shift 2 and some other games have the same problem.
Im trying to avoid the technical support because here in Brazil it sucks a lot (and it is really expensive).
Someone knows where is the thermal sensor situated? I was going to replace the heatsink, but I dont want to waste more money on that. How could I fix that ?
Thanks![]()

Sounds strange, - it might be hardware-related since it could play NFS with no problems at all!
But here is my humble suggestions:
Have you tried to install the stock-driver for your ATI 5650 (or download the latest one from Acers website)? It might help. You could also consider buying a cooler that you can put beneath your laptop.
Kinds regards,
Peter -
I installed the driver pack from Acer website, and updated from AMD website.
I forgot to mention that Im using a cooler pad - thermaltake massive 23lx.
Im afraid that it is harware issue (thermal sensor problem) or heatsink issue.
Thanks -
It looks like a dust-issue to me.
Open the laptop- clean the inside of the radiator and while you're at it you might as well apply new thermal paste. -
No. Im certainly sure that it is not dust issue. Like I said on the first post, Ive disassembled the notebook more that 5 times, and all of them I cleaned the radiator and all the air flow gaps. And I applied 2 types of thermal paste, and both didnt change the temp (I have applied well, not too much, not too little .They really worked on my desktop PC ).
Thanks -
What's the ambient temperature?
Did you bend the heatpipe at any point? -
The ambient temp is about 25C.
I didnt bend the headpipe, also have never heard about bending the headpipe. How does it work? XD -
It doesn't work- heatpipes contain liquid that evaporates- if you bend a heatpipe too much it might crack and without the liquid inside it's no longer a heatpipe- just a copper tube.
If you haven't done so it should be OK but I'm running out of ideas...
