My month-old 5820TG' fan is making a cricket-like noise (as a non-native speaker I find it hard to find the right word for this kind of noise) whenever the fan is on, even at its lowest speed. You can hear a sample here.

I've read a lot of complains about electrical buzzing noise coming from the CPU on this model, but this is clearly not a electrical noise --I'm 100% sure it comes from the fan, as it stops when the fan is off (while the computer is idling).

Even though the noise is quite faint, it is quite disturbing, even more than the noise the 10-year old Acer laptop it is replacing made.

So my question: is this cricket-like noise normal or common for the 5820tg series and I should learn to live with it?
Or is it worth to go through the pain of trying to RMA it?

Sounds like something it hitting the fan. Sorry but I think you have to RMA it. If left unrepaired it could damage the fan.

Oh and cricket is exactly the way to describe it.

Yes, that is what I though too -- a cable or something else. Unfortunately it's quite new and I don't want to void the warranty by trying to disassemble it, so RMAing it is it. Too bad, as it was otherwise quite good.

Thanks for confirming it is not normal on these series!
