I'm pretty paranoid when it comes to computer problems, and I was playing Battlefield 2 earlier tonight on my Acer 5920 when it just stopped midgame and the computer completely froze - so I had to power it down. This gave me a couple of error messages when Windows was booting up again, "unexpected shut down" if I recall (or something like that).

What do people think the problem is here? I'm a little worried that I wasn't able to at least ctrl+alt+del and go to task manager or something. Is it hardware related? I'm using the unofficial nvidia drivers, but apart from that everything is updated for Vista. I'm also using Avast! as my antivirus.

What should I be looking at? I'm currently doing an 'error check' on both of my HDDs..!

[And how bad is it for my laptop, when I have to manually reset / power down like this ... is it going to cause long term problems or damage file integrity etc.?]

    Thanks!
