I've got my acer 5920G for over one year now, and am planning some upgrades.

I know that 4 gb of ram is no problem, but must this be 667MHz or 800 MHz?

What would be the best CPU in price/performance?

Could I get an 9600MGT from an acer 5930G to work in my 5920G?

I would be able to get an 9600MGT through my local computer store. They can also still deliver older cards like the 8600MGT with DDR3. All I need to know is if the 9600MGT would work in my laptop?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi
Memory needs to be 667 if its 800 it will down clock, I got some from the US on Ebay last week, I am slamming in 4gb myself. The cpu is up to you I was looking at the T9300, the T9500 looks nice but exspensive, they are 800 fsb but wont be a problem with the ram.

I am eager to see the outcome of your GPU question I am running a 8600mgs and will upgrade if possible..

You will allso need a 64bits operating system to take advantage of you 4gigs of ram..

The 5920G has a MXM-II slot, so the best GPU for it is the 9500M GS !! (The 9600M GT is probably a MXM-III card, but not sure - as I haven't seen an image of the GPU)

EDIT: I guess the 9600M GT will be a MXM-II card as its TDP does not exceed the 25W TDP mark, and has a 128-bit mem interface - so I guess it is MXM-II and will fit in the 5920G without any probs, but it would be necessary to keep an eye on the BIOS upgrades to check when the G96 GPU compatibility is added, because without it, the BIOS won't recognise the GPU....

I believe that the 5930G still comes with an MXM-II slot - so it is not that worth a notebook, in terms of upgrading !!
The 8930G comes with the 9700M GT, so it can support any MXM-III GPU that the BIOS supports....

you will have no issues running an 800Mhz FSB CPU even though the 965 chipset limits the RAM to 667Mhz. the chipset is designed to handle this.

as for which CPU to purchase... consider T8300 or T9300 those are going to be the best "bang for the buck".

and you can use either PC-5300 or PC-6400 ram and you will see NO DIFFERENCE unless the latencys of the ram is different... if you want to buy the BEST ram you can,, then look for PC-5300 CL4, no PC-6400 ram that i know of is going to go below the CL4 latency and by purchasing CL4-pc6400 ram you are just spending money on higher quailty ram that will be down-clocked by the motherboard.

but if you are just buying standard RAM, then you may as well buy PC-6400 ram as long as the latency is the same as the PC-5300. they both will perform the same and costs should be very compairable.
