I'm almost set on buying the acer 5920WSMi (from laptopsdirect £799 if you wanted to know) after changing my mind a couple of times!! The only other one which i'm interested in is the Sager NP5790 (Clevo M570RU) which i can configure to similar specs and be about £150 more than the acer (but without the OS... which doesnt bother me, but it depends if they ship to the UK and the shipping costs), but i'd rather have a 15.4" screen so it is more portable.
    So here comes the questions...
I'm going to want to connect the acer to my 7.1 system ( creative gigaworks s750) from time to time, so are the ports on the front capable of doing this?
Also, I heard the fans do turn on and off quite a bit. Is this true, and how loud? Is it really annoying?
I'm gonna be taking it out to uni too (not all the time tho), hence what is it like to carry and how does it feel? Is it quite heavy or fine for carrying?
One more thing is the overall appearance. I dont really know what to think of it! I do like the fact it doesn't look like the typical laptops, but i really need to see it in person! Can someone tell me what they think of it? In the pictures it looks as if the lid curves, which is the main thing that puts me off. Is the lid flat or does it really look like a dome?

I know this seems long but I really wanna be sure i made the right decision and I'm happy with it!!

Oh yeah, has anyone succesfully added a bluetooth module to the acer 5920? I came across a thread but it didn't say if it was succesful!!

3-4 hours seems quite good...I actually thought it was less (must have got confused with the HUGE pile of other laptops which I have had to check out). I did come across that page and some of the reviews before but didn't realise that there were two reviews from this forum. I did check them out though, but my other questions above are still unanswered...some more help would be appreciated.
BTW, where is your review of the acer? According to that page, you were gonna do one...you still not finished yet or just gave up? lol

oh... I just submitted my review and hopefully it will be added to this site soon.

I don't have an external speaker system so I do not know. However, the 5920G does have 3 input port in the front. One microphone, one line-in, and one heaphones/speaker/line-out jack with s/PDIF support.

The fans are extremely quite and inaudible most of the time. They only become noticeable during gaming and other intensive tasks. However, it is still pretty unobtrusive.

The laptop weighs almost 7lb with battery. Carrying it in a backpack feels ok, but briefcase style gets really stressful.

I really like the look, but you have to decide for yourself.

lastly,I pretty sure you can find a model with bluetooth. Mine has it.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to get the turbo memory version...as i have a bluetooth dongle already (but thought if i could put a built in one, it would be more convinient). So has anyone tried to hook up external speakers to this laptop succesfully?

I have Acer 5920. Only issue is that I am not able to use external mic. Front audio port does not recognize when mic is plugged in.

I have not used external speakers with my 5920, but i have installed a bluetooth module in my unit. You can find cheap generic ones off of ebay for like 20 bucks (wires and dongle preassembled, just plug in), or google acer bluetooth module to find some that are the official unit for the acer systems (about 100 dollars), or you could even just make your own connector from a dongle of your choice and some wires. I cant even hear the fan when I am not gaming, and when I am and the fan comes on, it is still rather negligible.
