Hi guys. I bought my 5920G a few days ago and I got a small problem with the speakers. My right side speaker sounds more louder than the left side one. Is this ok? Or is there something wrong with my left side speaker? I tried them on xp and linux live cd. The right side speaker sounds much better than the left one. Does anyone experience this as well?

Which setting should I check? The balance looks fine since I just recover the vista back and haven't modified any setting. Is it because the front speaker under the laptop? I just noticed there is a speaker on the right-side at the bottom of the laptop while there isn't any on the left-side. Maybe I am just not used to it.

Is there any way I can disable the right-side speaker at the bottom of the laptop? Thanks for the help.

The speaker at the bottom right-side is the subwoofer. The actually speakers are hidden under the silver strip above the keyboard.

Are you currently using Vista or XP?

Same to me..months ago i didn't know whats going on. But after i checked, and tested the speakers in control panel's sound settings, i realized that there isn't any problem with them. Maybe the subwoofer is amplifying the sound on the right :)

Actually I tested the speaks on Vista, XP and ubuntu. Yea, as warrick said, maybe because the subwoofer amplifies the sound on the right side, the sound from the right side is louder than the left side.

warrick, can you tell me which setting did you check so that you realize there is no problem? Thank you.

Huh, im on xp right now, but trying to navigate from it :)
so go to control panel settings, then click on 'hardware and sound', then on 'sounds and audio devices'. On the window popping up, click on configure button and you can check the speakers here :)

    bishop -
    You mentioned Linux...
I have an Acer 5920, not the "G" version. They're similar but yours uses a faster CPU, nVidia graphics, a few other things.
In Vista, the chassis speakers sound fine. Plugging in a headphone kills the chassis speakers. I don't think the subwoofer biases the sound appreciably toward the right hand side of the machine. It sounds balanced to me.
I've installed Ubuntu 7.10. In Ubuntu, the right speaker works, the left one does not. The subwoofer works now but didn't at first.
Headphones sound fine, but don't kill the chassis speakers regardless of the "Switch" setting in the gnome speaker applet.
I've dinked with alsamixer and the gnome speaker applet settings but still no joy.
Can expand on what I've learned so far if that's any interest to you. If the speaker isn't working in Windows either you may have bigger problems than me.
I'll watch this thread, and you can PM/email me
In Linux, lspci command identifies the audio as Intel ICH8. In alsamixer, card is Intel HDA and chip is Realtek AC888 (or something similar). I'm not yet sure what that means!

Ok... for me just sitting in front of laptop everything feels balanced. However, when I press my ear against the keyboard then it became obvious that the side with the subwoofer sounds louder.

I have exactly the same problem with my 5920G bought April 30, 2008. Acer support spent at least 25 minutes with me trying to fix as a software problem with the Realtek, finally giving me a repair number. Version on computer is 6.0.1.5470 version on acer websight is 6.0.1.5400. Can't execute.

I have gone thru all combinations in control panel. The onboard speakers are not working correctly. Balance right tests great, balance left tests like equal signal left right...i e sound comes from middle. I don't think the "subwoofer" is working. ...in anycase, it should not through bance off over whole frequency spectrum.

Staples have a return and or exchange 30 day policy...but I like unit.
