Hello,
I've just done some minor upgrading of my 5920G, as it is getting a bit long in the tooth and I had some parts that I scavenged.
I increased the RAM from 2gb to 3gb, I installed a larger hard drive, and I upgraded the T5550 C2D to a T7300C2D.
Problem comes with the CPU temps. Under load they were getting 95degrees or higher. I figured that way my fault for trying to reuse the heatpads. Fair enough. I bought some cheap thermal paste, and cleaned areas and applied it. That dropped the stressed temperature to 95degrees and below roughly. That is still rather high, so I spent a few more bucks and bought some Arctic Silver 5. Cleaned, and reapplied it again, and now it is slightly better again, but still a little bit too high. It's around 90-93 under load.
I've tried it in warm rooms, heavily air conditioned rooms, and I usually have it set up on the desk or table with a small book propping up the rear in order to allow for circulation.
My 8600M GS also runs a little warm, but it has from the beginning, and the Arctic Silver did help it a bit, especially under OC.
Anyone have any suggestions about the CPU? I wouldn't mind attempting to undervolt it, but I want to try to avoid having another program running when Windows starts to set it every time.
Cheers

Maybe the thermal paste is not contacting the heatsink?

The T7300 is fairly comparable in size to the T5550, and is actually used in other configurations of the 5920G. The heatsink has spring screws that ensures it is flat, and I've checked it a few times to be sure.

For what it is worth, you are applying just a very thin film of paste evenly right?
Many overdo the amount. Can make things worse.
Buff the contact plates with a Scotchbrite pad before applying.
A small dot of paste when pressed down works well. -
Yeah, after the first time I cheaped out with the paste I made extra certain that everything was clean, and only a small amount.
Siiigggghhhh.... I mean I guess it's not killing anything yet, as it has never at any point went higher than 100C.
