Hello!
I have replaced a dead 8600GT with a HD3650. But something strange happens:
Now the laptop boots with a black screen, BUT when I use a external monitor, I can see windows logo! (not before with the 8600gt dead card). So, this HD3650 card is WORKING but not with the laptop screen. Why? overheating? I tried coppermod but same result, maybe Im putting the termalpaste in the wrong way...

Try a different VBIOS. Try installing the MXM SBIOS mod.
Definitely not an overheating issue - the card is failing to detect the internal screen. -
Can you put me in the right way to do that?
Just download the latest bios from Acer website? -
Ok, The card comes from ebay with an Acer Vbios preloaded.
So... I should flash the Bios to support MXMmod I think... Can't find a guide to do that -
An Acer VBIOS means nothing in case of ATI. In fact, all Acer VBIOSes for ATI I've seen so far were machine-specific, with no MXM interrupt call.
In fact, an ATI reference VBIOS is more likely to work than an Acer one.
For the SBIOS MXM mod, see the x920G vs. 9600M GT thread. -
Can I use the file :
"Aspire 5920G (Phoenix, Intel VT and EIST unlocked): request download ticket | ifile.it"
in this case? -
Not just for NVIDIA - one of the key features of MXM is that the VBIOS must never be embedded into the SBIOS.
-
Thanks for your patience.
Any way is strange becouse this HD3650 card it's supposed to work if it has an Acer Vbios preloaded, with a 5920G laptop. Many people says it works here:
The Acer Guy Blog Archive Morris’ Aspire 5920 GPU Swap/upgrade
Maybe my lcd screen is broken or a connection... But I have backlight in it so I'm not sure.
Can you tell me the steps to flash a moded SBIOS? -
Some info in my bios screen:
SYSTEM BIOS VERSION: v.1.3810
VGA BIOS VERSION: ATi 010.088.000.014.029118
I'm in windows now and I can see both screens detected.
My external screen and the laptop screen.
The laptop screen slowly changes color to vertical lines.
Is it my laptop screen broken? Or still can be a Bios problem? -
There is v1.3813 bios availablle for 5920G on official website.
-
Uhm, don't you just have to install the new bios (the one Siglar mentioned, I use it too) and reboot? I'm not sure if I remember correct because chris (not sure if that was his name lol) from mxm-upgrade did it for me, but I think it was just like installing a normal software program?
It solved al the problems I had with the hd4670. -
Note that V1.3813 from Acer's official site is NOT the MXM-patched BIOS - it is only the BIOS on which the MXM patch is based.
The "split-screen" effect on the display you describe is a sign that the card thinks you have a dual-link LVDS display (WXGA is always single-link). A different VBIOS may fix this.
And again, for the umpteenth time, an Acer VBIOS doesn't guarantee compatibility. In fact, an ATI reference VBIOS is more likely to work well. VBIOS vendor matching is only required for vendors who do PCI ID whitelisting - something Acer is not known for doing. -
does this info not mean my VBIOS is ATI reference?
SYSTEM BIOS VERSION: v.1.3810
VGA BIOS VERSION: ATi 010.088.000.014.029118
Maybe I can flash to 1.3813 first, and if that doesn't solve anything, flash a moded MXM BIOS. It will be a "save" process... -
Check the subsystem vendor ID using GPU-Z. It should show an ATI vendor ID. It will probably show Acer instead.
-
Also I have tried flashing original 3813 without changes, so I need a MXM mod VBIOS -
"Subvendor: Acer 1025"
Try an ATI VBIOS from TechPowerup.
If that doesn't help, you can find the MXM-modded SBIOS (not VBIOS!) in the x920G vs. 9600M GT thread. -

However, I think it was more a clocking problem... different issues... plus it would be obvious if the vBIOS on this card were HP.
I had the 5720g of course [never modded the sBIOS] but I can upload that vBIOS if needed. Its also somewhere in the Acer MXM thread.
EDIT: Nevermind, those were 256mb ddr3 -
Hi caballero600 , did you finally run 3650 without any problems?
