I have default configuration Acer 5920G (1.5Gh, 2GB, 160GB 5400 rpm) and it's been pretty slow for video editing, so I am considering to upgrade. What do you recommend to get?

For video editing you should get a faster cpu. Ram looks good, so does the hard drive.

if you mean a bios update to recognise more than 3-3.5mb's of ram in a 32 bit system- idk, not familair enough w/ acer, but i doubt it.....

    new bios, new pc.......

He meant a BIOS upgrade to recognize the new cpu, not ram.

There's no way to tell, you'll just have to wait for Acer to upgrade their lineup to penryns and see if they get out a new BIOS.

$400?! You're getting ripped off. It's just $390 shipped if you get the T7500 and 200GB 7k200 on eBay! ;)

(Don't worry, I'm kidding. I'll always spend 5% more to get it from NewEgg)

Seriously, though, I'm torn with your decision. Maybe try to factor what the final cost would be between-

    1. Buying a new cpu / hard drive, and selling your old ones

    2. Buying a new better laptop, and selling your old one

There's also the couple hundred dollar difference in cost-up-front. I'm personally planning on upgrading the internals of my 5620, but am fine waiting for prices to come down for at least a few months.

well I figure, it's a 6 month laptop probably worth around $600 (half the price) so If I spend $400 it will be $1000 that I could put towards new laptop. I just checked new Sony laptop and with decent config it would cost about $500 more (that's with mid range Penryn CPU, same 200GB HD 7200, BluRay drive etc....)

so final decision, it's not worth upgrading 5920G...

wait say a month, and maybe the old cpu's will be cheaper as they try to get rid of them. you could also wait for other people to get penryn, and maybe you can grab a used one for cheap... CPU's don't 'wear' they work or they don't.
