I have an acer 5920G with the T5250 (or whatever) 1.5 ghz dual core processor, and I have a T7400 CPU on hand that I wanted to swap out with the old one.

However, when I upgrade the processor and try to turn the computer on, it won't boot. It doesn't even get to the POST screen, it just turns itself off.

    Any suggestions?

    I have a 5920 that I installed a T7700 in, so I would assume that a T7400 would work. You're sure it's a good CPU- right?
Sounds like you better start over, it could be a thermal issue, did you put thermal paste on cpu?, cpu seated correctly? I've corrected a few problems like this by simply reseating cpu. Good luck

I've reseated the CPU several times now, there don't appear to be any pin issues.

As for the thermal issues, I'd assume that I'd get at least a POST screen before I overheated the CPU. I don't know how else to test the CPU, but it's a possibility that it's dead.

I've updated the BIOS to the latest version, and everything works fine with the old CPU (I'm using that one right now) so it's definitely a CPU issue.

The only thing that I can put out there that might help is that when I turn the computer on, the fan kicks up, the power indicator lights up, and then about 2-3 seconds later, everything goes quiet, and the computer turns itself off. There are no beeps or other unusual sounds.

    T5250 is Socket P, while T7400 is Socket M.

As far as I know, 5920G is Santa Rosa and can NOT use Socket M processors.

If you want to upgrade your processor to a T7xxx series, choose from these:
T7100, T7250, T7300, T7500, T7700, T7800 as these are all Socket P and should be compatible with your Acer. Though I'm not sure if the really fast ones can be properly cooled by the fans in your lappy, although that's a different issue already.

the 4920s are all configured with T7250 or better here , mine was with T7300 and NVIDIA GF 8600m GT.

    where did you buy it?

but any ways, like Scythie says, I think you need a T7300 or anything with P type socket and the T7400 has the M type.

I might be wrong , though.

Yeppers. 800 for a core2 duo w/ Nvidia 8600 GT? No way I could pass it up.
