    Hello!
Ma lappy will be 2 years old in august, but it seems battery alredy died.
I do carry it around quite a lot, but most of the time I work on AC power.

Few weeks ago I had to work on battery and to my surprise laptop went into hibernation in less than 5 minutes after power on. Filled back to 100% and tested -- battey indicator counted percents down to 0 literally inf front of my eyes.

Is there a way to determine battery status? Might be some cells that are damaged? Any Idea what might gone wrong?

Laptop has 2 year warranty, so it's still covered for few months, but I doubt that is also true for battery only.

    Thx,
    b.

Try this program: HWiNFO32. In "Smart Battery" menu take a look at "Wear Level". The battery has only a 6 months warranty.

    Hello!

Tryed HWinfo32, link to pic on ImageShack: http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/5467/59780354.jpg

Wear level is at 70%, but lines above are confusing. When fully charged battery is only at 33% of designed capacity.

Smth is broken here ... charger, battery or some other component :/

There is nothing confusing in the chart .

Imagine that the battery looks like a Glass of water , that its day gets sorter by a little .

When the glass was new , could hold the same capacity of water , like any glass.

Today only the 30% of the Glass is healthy , so it hold only 30% of the water that it used to store .

This 30% of battery capacity , it gets again calculated as 100% when its full , and 0% when gets empty .

There is no way to restore the 30% battery health to max , always goes down , never up .

There is some ways , to delay the battery aging .

    1) Like removing it , if you use the DC external power most of the times.
    2) If you have the laptop on storage with the battery on , it must not be fully charged .. must be at 80% charged .
    3) At 80% charged , must be even if you plan to remove the battery,
    so to be separately stored.
    4) Laptop and battery , must stay at 20C room temp , or lower.

Thanks for explanation, have mixed feelings reading it.
I did most of things you wrote -- first charge was 20h+, when on AC battery was removed, while on battery I usualy discharged to 5% and only than started to charge and left it overnight.

What surprises me is how fast battery "died" -- one day I would work around 3h20m, next day dropped to 1h20m, week later it's under 10 minutes from 100% to hibernation. For less than 2 years old laptop and beeing first owner, thats very ... sad.

My wear level is at 20% after almost 1.5 years. Typically run down the battery I'd say at least 2 times a week and have it plugged in otherwise.

I was checking online prices for new battery and in my country average price with VAT is around 85 euros.

So, i searched ebay and 2 sellers came out, one from China:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Battery-Acer-Aspire-5310-5315-5320-5710-5920-7520-7720_W0QQitemZ300313411144QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_LaptopsAccessories_LaptopBatteries?hash=item300313411144&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1690|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50

    and other from Hong Kong:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4800mAh-Genuine-New-AS07B42-Aspire-5920-5920G-AS07B41_W0QQitemZ180347219148QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_LaptopsAccessories_LaptopBatteries?hash=item180347219148&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1690|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50#ebayphotohosting

Price is actually the same (China doesnt include P&P).

Any idea if there is more than 6-cell/4800mAh for 5920? Since I need new one I'd rather buy higher capacity :) So far I was unsuccesfull to get that info.

Any pros and cons buying battery online?

    Thx,
    b.

    Hello!

I ended with new battery, bougt at official reseller for 144 euros including VAT, 3 months warranty. Using it for 2 weeks and it lasts longer than original -- at least 3h 30m, sometimes even longer (last discharge was 3:42 before battery indicator started blinking ... yay! :)

It's not same model -- original is AS07B 42 and new one is AS07B 32.
