It should work. It's recommended that you flash the patched BIOS first - some 9500M GSes lock up during POST in the 5920G without the patch.

No. You will need the one from the Acer MXM BIOS modding thread. The one you linked to is just a menu mod.

    Thank you very much.
I just install this "5920G_MXM_V3.WPH" and will try the 9500m GS when I get in my hands.
I saw that it is confirmed that the 9600m gt works at Acer 5920g now with this patched BIOS "5920G_MXM_V3.WPH".
    Is this true,
Tell me before i am gonna crazy,
I have tried 5-6 different 9600m gt without success and now i don't have nothing.
What was the best and safest choice for the Acer 5920g, in the final? 8600M GT? 9500M GS? 9600M GT? 9650M GT? or some ATI vga card?
    Please reply to my questions....please.

I would personally go for a 9600m gt ddr3 if you can get one to work. I plan to put one in my acer along with a x9000 cpu when I get the cash and time to do it.

If you already have the 9500m gt, that is a great card for overclocking (see my sig). You should be able to overclock it quite a bit, the only problem for me is it only has ddr2 ram.

I am not trying to wum but the 8600m gt is basically the same as a 9500m gs both are 80nm cards, the only difference is the 9500m gs has been revised slightly.

Apart from the gpu memory there is no difference. A 9500m gs is essentially an 8600m gt, check notebookcheck.

In fact I wouldn't be suprised if you could flash your card to be named 9500m gs.

The highest upgrade available for the 5920G is the GT 240M. If you have good soldering skills, you can get a GT 330M or HD 4650 in there. An MSI HD4670 will also work - but it's impossible to find.

I would advise getting an acer ultra m3 with gt 640m. Now that is more powerful then a 9800m gtx and takes similar power consumption to your 8600m gt.

If it's from an Asus, then it's likely a reversed card that can't be installed in an Acer.

Asus GT 240M and 9650M GT should be fine - but make sure that the card does look like the one in my avatar, and not a mirror image of it.

I am looking on ebay for an 9500M GS in low price and after installation will tell you the results.
Because i have trying without success many other cards (few faulty 8600M GT's ... try to fix it, few good 9600M GT ... no success etc...)

The instructions for modding a GT 330M can be found in either the MXM BIOS modding thread, or the MXM cards thread (can't remember which one).

It's basically the same card- same core same manufacturing process, and the same frequencies.
Predictably benchmark scores are almost identical too

OK, but in ebay can you find a lot of 8600M GT defect (with the well-known problem) and none 9500M GS.
This means something? This means that 9500 is more reliable or more a few?

8600M GT is older so it's more likely to have already failed. Both suffer from bumpgate issues.
I've had a 9500M GS fail on me recently ;)

@dedalos91: You are much better off with a 9600M GT or GS - as the 9500M GS is really a GeForce 8000-series card, it will not permanently fix Bumpgate.

In theory, it should work. In practice, many (most?) DDR2 cards are made by Asus, and produce black screens and other problems in Acers.

After few days i have in my hand the (used) vga 9600M GT from ebay BUT UNFORTUNATELY i have big problem.
When put it into my laptop (5920G) i have NO POWER, NO WAY... battery, cable-psu, battery + cable-psu... No power > no power up > no 9600M GT.
And the lamp on the psu (on the cable, the green light lamp) flashing if connected at my laptop (and at 220v wall socket).
After this test i put again my old (8600M GT) vga card and all ok except my battery not work without cable connected, so no battery.
If connect the power cable-psu (with battery) all ok and the battery looks charge normal (and the laptop boots ok in windows) but if disconnect from cable-psu no power > shut down, i will try to fix the battery problem after test...but my bigger problem is the 9600M GT.
WHAT is the wrong with vga card? what is the problem? Is the vga card (from ebay) defect or something...WHAT?
    Please help me...

    edit
The battery stuck at 86 % and i think is destroyed...
The battery is 14,8 Volt model...

The card has a short-circuit between PWR_SRC and GND - check with a multimeter. If it is indeed the case, send it back to the seller.

Thanks very much for the answer but how can i do this? i don't know the correct pin-contacts of the card to check...i am not to much advanced user as you are...and if this is true my battery is for trash?

    edit #1
i try to google it but no result..

    edit #2
    Ok i found this:
    "Re: Acer aspire 7720-6152
    The card is probably short.
Check for a short-circuit between the card's PWR_SRC and GND pins (pin numbers can be found in the MXM specification on mxm.borec.cz)."

I will test my laptop for few days but in this 1-2 hours works nice...

We need to do something with the temperatures on the laptop now with the 9600M GT?

Maybe must someone change this: "[Note: The 9600M GT is NOT compatible with the 5920G]" in this page: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/396320-acer-mxm-models-cards.html

For temperatures, you may need a copper shim for the GPU.

    And thanks for the feedback.

I test my 9600M GT and this is the results:

    Software FurMark
    Duration 15min
    2717 frames, 3 FPS, max 95°C
    Resolution: 1280x720 (W) - AA:0 samples
    FPS: min:2, max:7, avg:3
    GeForce 9600M GT/PCIe/SSE2 (10DE-0649)

Is that ok? Is normal? The max temp 95°C is ok or too high?

    Thanks
