Got a brand new (two-weeks old) 5920G running Vista. I've recently installed Vista SP1 and I've since been experiencing boot problems. The machine powers on and if I wait then press enter I can sometimes even hear Vista load - but the screen is blank. Nothing. Everything else seems to be working normally. If I reboot or, as I sometimes have to, hold down the power putton and force a shutdown, it will normally come back with a black screen again. The only way I've been able to get it back up to now is by shutting it down for a few hours, and then it's 50/50 whether it will boot normally or come back blank again.

Not sure whether it's caused by SP1 or, as I've read elsewhere, the nVidia (Geforce 8600GS) drivers or what.

Does anyone have any experience of this and can you tell me what's causing it? Getting desperate, so thanks for any help.

Do you mean on the screen or the keyboard? There's a single light flashing above the keyboard (not sure what all those symbols mean yet, but I think it's just the CPU light!?). The screen is completely blank - no cursor, nothing.

Well , i was talking about the screen .

Ok , your next step are to use the ACER CDs to restore it to the factory default state.

Its a Microsoft issue , and there is nothing that some one can do for the time.

Read your manual, of how to start the erecovery .

I have that problem ! for 10 seconds I have a black screen with a cursor blinking before vista boots, then everything works fine. What's the cause and how to fix it?
