Hello and sorry for my english is not my mother language. I have an acer 5920g. When i turn it on one day the screen was all vertical lines and the half screen became white and the other half pink and i couldnt see anything. It did it from the beggining before even show the bios diagnostic. After a lot of tries and after i connected with external monitor i managed to fix it and the laptop booted normal with no problem (with and without the external monitor). I did a couple of restarts to make sure its ok but after 2-3 restarts i show in the screen some hotizontical green lines in some parts of the screen and it get only in the loading vista bar. After a restart it shows again vertical lines in all screen and it doesnt seems i can fix it this time. Has anyone any idea what causes it and how can i fix it? Also i have the same laptop (5920g) with same characteristics but seems motherboard is not working and i wonder if the problem is in graphics card if i can change it from the other laptop i have. Is there possible to change the card in 5920g laptop??? thanks a lot.

Yeah does seem like the graphics card. It is removable in the 5920G, the easiest replacement is either an HD3650 MXM II or 9600M GS MXM II card.

I have exactly the same card 8600gs from another 5920g of my friend so if it is removable there will be no problem to change it i guess. But i wonder if it is graphics card the problem souldnt be permanent? The laptop was ok then it shows the problem then it was ok for a while and then the problem was there again. Thanks for the help anyway.

Knowing the cause of it, slowly cracking solder balls, then it's on its way out and will only need a few more heat up-cool down cycles to finally die.

Manufacturing problem, the HD3650 would not have this problem.

They can be found quite cheaply.

If you want to go the HD4670 route, then it would certainly crank up the graphics power of your notebook, but would be more expensive.

Yeah another 8600 has a good chance of going too. Since its not an explosive fault then there is a good chance it will survive.

I would put the 8600 you have in it and then replace that if you need to.
