Unless I missed this, I did a search.
But an new bios is up on the Acer support listed as version 1.16V?
I checked out the file but nothing listed and documentation?
Acer 6920G Bios Updated 1.16v
Any ideas?
-
I sent them an email requesting info on this update.
Another oddie of the update is it's almost 2.4mb in size compared to the 1.7mb of the other bios.
The rom file itself is quite large, there must have been some changes. -
I give up with Acer support.
They won't give me any information as my warranty is out *rolls eyes*.
The kept giving me details how to update my bios, not what i asked for. -
You should ask for the changelog. -
I did several times, they kept sending update inscrutions
-
-
Y'know, some days I would love to just use Acer's paid support to ask them questions like this...and to rub the fact that WE fixed THEIR throttling problem in their faces.
-
So far so good with the new bios, my CPU is sitting aroud 31C. I'm play Stalker 2009 complete with no Throttle.
ThrottleStop is off.
20 mintunes and counting. -
40 mintunes the CPU never reached higher then 35C playing Stalker.
Going to try left for dead, that always caused it for me -
I just ran through Left 4 Dead an entire map and no throttle, nothing at all.
Everytime I do this it always has for me.
almost one hour no throttle, CPU went just a bit over 40C with left 4 dead now. -
Given up on manual tests, running ORTHOS.
Argh I can't get her to heat up anymore using the new BIOS.
I don't believe ACER fixed this...
10 mintunes and counting and my CPU is at 34C while running ORTHOS -
OK, then the CPU's temperature is being read wrong.
There's no way in heck that your CPU's at 34 degrees while running ORTHOS at stock voltages.
I'm undervolted by over 0.1V, and I hit 34 during regular use, not stressing. -
25 mintunes at it hit just above 37C
I'm using CPUID to monitor
I have used CPUID before as I've talked in other threads and I never seen tempaure readings like this before.
Last time I ran ORTHOS at stock it was at 60C within mintunes. -
maybe the new bios sets off the temp to override throttling?
I undervolted by 0.25V (to 1V), and reach 31 during regular use and 23 at idle. orthos should quickly reach 50C.
use realtemp instead.
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ -
also, how did you update the bios? winplash doesn't work on 7 x64.
-
http://www.thepcspy.com/read/bootable_usb_flash_drive
Somthing like that I use the HP tool and the win98 files to create an bootable USB DOS disk, and it from there. -
alright thanks. as i said try real temp, and for stressing use orthos (small fft - stress cpu) + furmark. see if it throttles and check the temperatures.
-
I use real temp, and I'm confused at the values.
But yah it's sitting at 50 C and holding after ten+ mintunes, and no throttle. -
Okay so I have OTHOS running, I don't access to furmark. So I ran Morrowind ( I have it modded for new shaders, textures, etc) and it's hard on the GPU/CPU
I pushed the temp to 58C after ten mintunes, and nothing.
No throttle
So i turned OTHOS off as it running for almost 30 mintunes it took less then a few mintunes for the CPU to drop down to 30C using real temp. -
not sure, seems like it's fixed. give furmark a try:
http://www.geeks3d.com/20100202/furmark-1-8-0-hot-like-hell-edition-available/
download (only a couple of megabytes), install, and click on start. at the same time, run orthos stress cpu. monitor results for about an hour or so just to make sure. this is the ultimate throttle test. if it doesnt occur, then it's fixed. -
Okay i will try that right now and I give it an whole hour
be back in one hour
Just an taste:
GPU: 67C
CPU: 61C
Holding after 12 mins + no throttle
I have an idea later for proof when I'm happy with the testing, in just under an hour.
Here's a little somthing to kill the wait

*$%*#$* Acer Darn you!
-
did the temps decrease with this update? cause 61 for cpu and 67 for gpu is pretty low on full load. with that combo, mine reached 80 for cpu and 87 gpu (max values).
-
Okay forget it I give up.
I had a bad feeling this was working to well.
Since I work in IT myself, I double check everything many times over.
I made sure this I disable throttlestop from starting in the tasks, and um yah it keep throttling now.
So what happen is complex but even through I had disable throttlestop the last time either throttlestop or windows 7 kept it's settings and thats why the tests were so messed up.
I removing my statemt an the post above.
The new bios appears to do nothing. -
ohh, what about temps? they were correct right?
-
Yes my temps are correct, that is the only thing that was correct.
I have throttlestop on running: checked mark for Chipset clock mod 100%, and Voltage ID at 0.95v
That what I running at for an entire hour, with no change in temp -
i think what kept it from throttling is voltage id because sometimes even without throttlestop, undervolting can do the job. you need to resart to get default VID.
one thing that baffles me is you low temps. maybe mine get high bcs i overclock the gpu, and you have a lower vid. -
I'm guesing that is the difference, my GPU is default.
No when I tested it for the hour throttlestop was off, but I think you're right the voltage stayed low even through it was turned off.
Sighs, oh well.
The newer bios is stable anyways and does seem a bit better. -
Are you using ntune or RivaTuner ?
-
nope. a program called evga precision. you can check it out, make your clocks as mine or tehsuigi. major fps improvements, just monitor the temps. the program doesnt even run in background.
-
It does't run in the background, but has to be started with windows correct for to apply the settings?
-
true. starts and exit before you notice it, silently.
-
I had you're settings, with my voltage nice.
Left 4 dead was at 25-30fps now at 40fps +
The GPU getting around 66C, umm what have you seen is safe? -
what about temps? try furmark (because it stress the gpu more than any game) and report.
-
70C and holding
-
not bad at all, it could increase a couple of degrees to reach 75 after an hour or so but it's perfectly fine. the gpu can handel more than cpu, i think it can handle 100C.
also you could try 186.82 drivers. i didnt try the newest ones because i heard they have brightness issues.
off to sleep! -
In terms of GPU overclocking, 80 should be your limit when under stress, 85 is pushing it, and you should NOT be getting to 100 ever.
Also, don't base your overclock on max temperature, base it on stability. When you start to see artifacting, back off the clocks a bit.
Everyone's GPU is different due to production variances - you might not be capable of my clocks, you could beat my clocks. The only way to know for sure is to test.
And thanks for trying the new BIOS out, warwon. +rep indeed. -
That whole BIOS thing was a mess, from my professional view point I should have been more careful the first time, anyways it's fine now we know for sure it doesn't appear to fix any thing major.
My values for over clocking are the same as our's no problems on the stress and no problems on the heat, I won't push it anymore.
I do have my CPU down to 0.95 and my at GeForce 9500M GS (625/1425/475). Happy now
Thanks for the rep. -
So I guess no point in updating to this BIOS eh?
-
the problem with 625/1425/475 is that the shader clock is actually 1400, with the newest version of gpuz it sees the actual values. i dont see any artificats even on 87.
also, i think that furmark is adapted to overheat the GPU, so the temps that i get in real games are much lower, about 70C max. -
@TehSuigi, i have a question. when playing borderlands for a while, the temp reaches about 67 for gpu and 55 for cpu. now i notice an fps decrease and notice that the gpu clocks decreased to about half of their values. so exit borderlands, start it again, and the problem is fixed. do you think this is game related?
-
Not sure, I don't play Borderlands.
But a cut in half might mean GPU throttling or PowerMizer kicking in unnecessarily. Double-check your temps again, perhaps? -
lowered the clocks to 625/1425/475 and it seems to work fine.
weird thing is with orthos+furmark, the clocks stayed high even higher temps. -
Bios 1.16 seems to have gone from acer.co.uk support.
Should i be worried? Has it been recalled?
I went ahead and updated in a hope it would resolve a few issues i had and all works as it should.
The fact that the latest bios is now 1.14 is a bit worrying. Anyone shed any light please.? -
i don't know, but you can always install 1.14 again.
i think it is possible that they had a lot of people asking what's new about the 1.16 version that they decided to take it down. -
It was pulled from all there support sites.
As I stated we have seen massive issues with 1.16v such as snowing on the screen as the big one.
Rollback to 1.14v nothing should happen that could be harmful if you do that. -
ya i think it's better to rollback.
-
So I should leave my BIOS as is? 1.16 is not safe or something?
-
-
Please could someone post a link of the 1.16bios update as I seem to only be able to find 1.10 on the ACER website.
Also can anyone confirm if this is ok to run on Windows 7 64 bit?
