    Hi Guys

I am new to this forum. I have a frustrating problem, my Acer 6920g keep turning off then booting up immediately. I did a memtest and I found out luckly my 1GB Ram and not 2gb had an errors so I took it out hoping it would fix the problem. Sadly I still have the same issue. My laptops keeps shutting off and restarting immediately . My CPU temperature are normal, they are not over heating not even close.

So I decided to try out a few things I went to device manager and disabled the GPU the resolution became much smaller as if I was using a 14inch laptop any way -- When the laptop was on battery ONLY my laptop was stable, when I connected the POWER cord the laptop was stable no seizures at all worked fine.

When I enabled the GPU--- when my acer laptop was on battery it was stable, when it connected the power cord I had the same frustrating shutt downs!!! So right now I can only my laptop with the battery only out of fear of its shutting down and rebooting .

So please please HELP if you have had the same issue kindly let me know, because this is frustrating, the random shutting down and booting back up is so annoying. Do I have a mother board issues? GPU or a faulty power pack? I know this issue is common with ACER 6920g... PLEASE get in touch.. Many thanks

Have you tried another Acer 65W/90W adapter that is known working? If you have, then it's probably your motherboard.

I was hoping it would be a GPU issue, if its a mother board problem, why doesnt it shut down when the power cord is connected and GPU is disabled? or when the GPU is enabled with out the power connected ie running on battery? Any one?

This notebook uses those dreaded nVidia cards that suffered a lot of issues. You probably have a 9500M GS on board which can be the root of a problem - they can behave differently before they die.

Check what happens if you force the card into power-saving mode even when the notebook is connected. If it's the GPU having problems with higher voltage that goes along with higher frequency, forcing lower frequency (power-saving mode) should help.

    And here goes one theory...

Anyway - see what happens if you use my suggestion and force GPU via PowerPlay to work in power-saving mode.

Do you mean Power Option via control panel were you have Balance, Power Saver and High performace? Right now my laptop is on Power saver and If I connect the power cord it goes off!!!!

I mean the option in ATI CCC panel. By default your card to see not locked in power-saving mode when you are connected to the external power source even if you are in Windows power-saving mode.
It's because each power-packed has its plugged and unplugged versions.

Got it..I enabled power play to use more battery rather than GPU performance.. I forgot to mention in my rant, My Original battery is weak, So I bought a replacement 10.8v 8800mAh.. I have used it for 6 months, 4 hour Juice and it was worked well. But I being having shut off issues

I just replaced it with my weak battery 5 mins ago and its seem stable so far and enabled maximum battery life in Power play . I will leave my laptop on for another one hour and see what happens. If it doesnt shut off I will put back my bigger battery and leave the power play setting the same and see what happens

Connect it to an external screen to check if there's any picture on it.
If it's the GPU there most likely will be no picture (although I've been unfortunate enough to deal with a notebook that worked with an external screen but not with an internal one and it was the GPU not the screen ).

6920G has MXM-II slot so the GPU can be replaced if needed.

I connected it to my tv via hdmi, no such luck. I am thinking of getting a 9600m gt.. Will I need to up date the bios for it to work? or will it just be plug and plays, obviously will need to get an updated driver. but will it work with out any need to upgrade my bios?

You'd need a modded BIOS for it to work at all.
