    Hi,
I own a acer 6920g-6428 which has started giving me the weirdest and the most difficult problem that i have ever faced. the laptop started giving this problem since past more than a month and in the beginning it used to switch off and then switch on when kept idle but since then it started switching off and on at any random point. First i thought it might be the windows issue and so i tried solving it by going into safe mode and doing some random troubleshooting which resulted into a corrupt bios and then i had to use a crisis disk to recover it. the problem still stayed the same. I then tried formatting the laptop using the recovery disk and to my surprise the laptop kept switching on and off even during the formatting process. Since then i have tried the following: replaced a new hdd and tried to install with a new cd (vista, 7 and xp), i have tried to downgrade and upgrade the bios, i have replaced and exchanged the ram but still no difference, i have tried to use another power power adapter, have removed the battery and tried, have cleaned the fan inside, have reapplied some thermal paste, have tried using the laptop after removing the wireless card and a few other things.

I am absolutely tired and at loss of ideas to how to solve this....one thing is for sure... it rarely switched off and on in safe mode and has a delay in switching off and on when there are no drivers installed..... as far as i can understand.. it is a hardware issue and would love to hear any suggestions coming my way......

I hope you've got an extended warranty, tdhawal. That sounds like a serious hardware problem that Acer would have to fix.
    Welcome to the forums otherwise!

Lol... yes i did tamper with stuff but i bought it from toronto in 2008 so its out of warranty already... And thanks, i have been a reader to this forum since long but havent posted much.... anyways there is another symptom that i see before the laptop switched off... the screen flickers extremly fast once and thats it... then the laptop would either switch off in a few secs or mins or just hang and show busy.... also to my surpurise... no matter how many times i try reinstalling windows, the laptop runs quite stable in the safe mode..... i would request you to please help and suggest what should i do next....

Im guessing it could be a GPU problem then? uninstall gpu drivers from safe mode and boot normally and see what happens.

im no expert at this though.. just a hunch

thanks... have tried that and still does the same... but now i have tried something new.... i disabled all major devices in the device manager on a freshly installed vista ultimate on a brand new hdd....i left only two devices enabled... the first one was the display adapter which is the nvidia 9500mgs with its drivers fully installed and the processors with both the cores enabled.... the laptop still showed the same symptoms.... but now for the main part, i went into safe mode and disabled the first core of my core 2 duo and wallah, everything worked fine... i then enabled all the devices and installed all the drivers with only the first core disabled and the laptop gives me no problem whatsover..... i am amazed and i would like to understand in detail what do these two cores exactly do seperately..... pls guys help me solve the problem... is it the processor... or the power chip on the motherboard or some issue with the north bridge and south bridge? please help tehsuigi and others....

    Hi tdhawal,

We share the same problem. I am looking for help as you are and I tried a lot of things that you mentioned earlier. I saw at this post

( [SOLVED] acer aspire 6920 reboots when on charge [moved from Vista/7] - Page 2 - Tech Support Forum)

another guy with the same issue and he is telling that the problem was solved by updating the processor's driver. I did not understand very well and asked him some questions and I hope this can help you.

Please let us know if you have any progress.

    thanks

Rick, please don't cross-post; the other topic you posted in hasn't been touched since June 2010.

    Dear TehSuigi,

I am new in the forum and I quite sure you are confusing me with another user because I have never posted at forums and I started looking for help on the internet just a few days ago.

    regards

No, I'm referring to the post you made in this topic which was more or less the same as yours here; I deleted it because it was superfluous.

No he didn't- the post above mine is your first and only post on this forum (none were deleted). Something must have gone wrong while you tried to post the other one.
So welcome to the forums and please post- whatever you wanted to- once again.
